Dear BROTHERS & SISTERS…ASSALAMU A'LYKUM…What was israau & mia'araju , ie the night journey from Masjidul Haram to Masjid ul Aqsa and the ascending from there to seven Heavens and the upper world?
Was it a Dream? Was it with the body & spirit of Prophet Muhammad swallallahu a'lyhi va sallam?
What are the different opinions among the Scholars  regarding this?

بَابُ حَدِيثِ الإِسْرَاءِ
Chapter: The narration about Al-Isra -Journey by Night
  وَقَوْلِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
Glorified be He Who took His servant for a Journey by Night from Al-Masjid Al-Haram to Al-Masjid Al-Aqsa, the neighborhood whereof We have blessed, in order that We might show him of Our Signs. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَقُولُ ‏ "‏ لَمَّا كَذَّبَنِي قُرَيْشٌ قُمْتُ فِي الْحِجْرِ، فَجَلاَ اللَّهُ لِي بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ، فَطَفِقْتُ أُخْبِرُهُمْ عَنْ آيَاتِهِ وَأَنَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ
Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah®
That he heard Allah's Messenger swallallahu a'lyhi va sallam saying, "When the people of Quraish did not believe me (i.e. the story of my Night Journey), I stood up in Al-Hijr and Allah displayed Baith ul Muqaddis in front of me, and I began describing it to them while I was looking at it

قَالَ بن دِحْيَةَ جَنَحَ الْبُخَارِيُّ إِلَى أَنَّ لَيْلَةَ الْإِسْرَاءِ كَانَتْ غَيْرَ لَيْلَةِ الْمِعْرَاجِ لِأَنَّهُ أَفْرَدَ لِكُلٍّ مِنْهُمَا تَرْجَمَةً قُلْتُ وَلَا دَلَالَةَ فِي ذَلِكَ عَلَى التَّغَايُرِ عِنْدَهُ بَلْ كَلَامُهُ فِي أَوَّلِ الصَّلَاةِ ظَاهِرٌ فِي اتِّحَادِهِمَا وَذَلِكَ أَنَّهُ تَرْجَمَ بَابَ كَيْفَ فُرِضَتِ الصَّلَاةُ لَيْلَةَ الْإِسْرَاءِ وَالصَّلَاةُ إِنَّمَا فُرِضَتْ فِي الْمِعْرَاجِ فَدَلَّ عَلَى اتِّحَادِهِمَا عِنْدَهُ وَإِنَّمَا أَفْرَدَ كُلًّا مِنْهُمَا بِتَرْجَمَةٍ لِأَنَّ كُلًّا مِنْهُمَا يَشْتَمِلُ عَلَى قِصَّةٍ مُفْرَدَةٍ وَإِنْ كَانَا وَقَعَا مَعًا
Ibnu Dihya assumes that Imam Bukhari inclined to the view that Israu & Mia'raaju occurred in separate nights because he -Bukhari -mentions both the incidents separately.But I-Ibnu Hajar- say,  Ibnu Dihya's argument is baseless.You see, when Bukhari mentions about Salah he describes  how Salah was made compulsory/obligatory during  the night of Israu, and it is well understood that Salah was made obligatory duing the night of Mia'raaju/ascending to the heavens. Hence it is clear that  both occurred in the same night.Imam Bukhari describes the two incidents under different heads simply because both are different incidents though occurred in the same night.
وَقَدْ رَوَى كَعْبُ الْأَحْبَارِ أَنَّ بَابَ السَّمَاءِ الَّذِي يُقَالُ لَهُ مِصْعَدُ الْمَلَائِكَةِ يُقَابِلُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ فَأَخَذَ مِنْهُ بَعْضُ الْعُلَمَاءِ أَنَّ الْحِكْمَةَ فِي الْإِسْرَاءِ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ قَبْلَ الْعُرُوجِ لِيَحْصُلَ الْعُرُوجُ مُسْتَوِيًا مِنْ غَيْرِ تَعْوِيجٍ
Ka'abul Ahbaar reports that the door of the lowest heaven which is known as the lift of angels, is facing the  Baith ul Maqdis at Jeruslem and hence some Scholars say that the ascending/miaaraju started from there in order to make the ascending straight without curving.
وَفِيهِ نَظَرٌ لِوُرُودِ أَنَّ فَقِيلَ الْحِكْمَةُ فِي ذَلِكَ أَنْ يَجْمَعَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةِ بَيْنَ رُؤْيَةِ الْقِبْلَتَيْنِ أَوْ لِأَنَّ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ كَانَ هِجْرَةَ غَالِبِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ قَبْلَهُ فَحَصَلَ لَهُ الرَّحِيلُ إِلَيْهِ فِي الْجُمْلَةِ لِيَجْمَعَ بَيْنَ أَشْتَاتِ الْفَضَائِلِ أَوْ لِأَنَّهُ مَحَلُّ الْحَشْرِ وَغَالِبُ مَا اتُّفِقَ لَهُ فِي تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةِ يُنَاسِبُ الْأَحْوَالَ الْأُخْرَوِيَّةِ فَكَانَ الْمِعْرَاجُ مِنْهُ أَلْيَقَ بِذَلِكَ أَوْ لِلتَّفَاؤُلِ بِحُصُولِ أَنْوَاعِ التَّقْدِيسِ لَهُ حِسًّا وَمَعْنًى أَوْ لِيَجْتَمِعَ بِالْأَنْبِيَاءِ جُمْلَةً كَمَا سَيَأْتِي بَيَانُهُ وَسَيَأْتِي مُنَاسَبَةٌ أُخْرَى لِلشَّيْخِ بن أَبِي جَمْرَةَ قَرِيبًا وَالْعِلْمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ
There are discussions among the Scholars as to why Baithul Maqdis was selected for the ascending/miaaraju . Some opinions are given below.
---To combine the seeing/sight of the two Qiblas; Baithul Maqdis & Kaa'ba.
---As many Prophets are burried in that soil , it was to have a meeting of the Prophets there before the ascending/miaaraaju of the Prophet swallallahu alaihi wa sallam and hints at the merits he would attain in future. Allah knows the best.
وَقَدِ اخْتَلَفَ السَّلَفُ بِحَسَبِ اخْتِلَافِ الْأَخْبَارِ الْوَارِدَةِ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ ذَهَبَ إِلَى أَنَّ الْإِسْرَاءَ وَالْمِعْرَاجَ وَقَعَا فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ بِجَسَدِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرُوحِهِ بَعْدَ الْمَبْعَثِ وَإِلَى هَذَا ذَهَبَ الْجُمْهُورُ مِنْ عُلَمَاءِ الْمُحَدِّثِينَ وَالْفُقَهَاءِ وَالْمُتَكَلِّمِينَ وَتَوَارَدَتْ
عَلَيْهِ ظَوَاهِرُ الْأَخْبَارِ الصَّحِيحَةِ وَلَا يَنْبَغِي الْعُدُولُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ إِذْ لَيْسَ فِي الْعَقْلِ مَا يُحِيلُهُ حَتَّى يَحْتَاجَ إِلَى تَأْوِيل
There is no unanimity among the SALAFS regarding the interpretation of the akhbaar/Hadiths on the subject of Israu & Miaaraju.
Most of the Scholars on Hadith & Jurisprudence consider that the occurrence of Israu & Miaaraju was on the same night and it was with the presence of the body and spirit of the Prophet swallallahu a'lyhi va sallam.There are so many Hadiths supporting this view.
نَعَمْ جَاءَ فِي بَعْضِ الْأَخْبَارِ مَا يُخَالِفُ بَعْضَ ذَلِكَ فَجَنَحَ لِأَجْلِ ذَلِكَ بَعْضُ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ مِنْهُمْ إِلَى أَنَّ ذَلِكَ كُلَّهُ وَقَعَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّةً فِي الْمَنَامِ تَوْطِئَةً وَتَمْهِيدًا وَمَرَّةً ثَانِيَةً فِي الْيَقَظَةِ كَمَا وَقَعَ نَظِيرُ ذَلِكَ فِي ابْتِدَاءِ مَجِيءِ الْمَلَكِ بِالْوَحْيِ فَقَدْ قدمت فِي أول الْكتاب مَا ذكره بن مَيْسَرَةَ التَّابِعِيُّ الْكَبِيرُ وَغَيْرُهُ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ وَقَعَ فِي الْمَنَامِ وَأَنَّهُمْ جَمَعُوا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ حَدِيثِ عَائِشَةَ بِأَنَّ ذَلِكَ وَقَعَ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَإِلَى هَذَا ذَهَبَ الْمُهَلَّبُ شَارِحُ الْبُخَارِيِّ وَحَكَاهُ عَنْ طَائِفَةٍ وَأَبُو نَصْرِ بْنِ الْقُشَيْرِيِّ وَمِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ فِي شَرَفِ الْمُصْطَفَى قَالَ كَانَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَعَارِيجُ مِنْهَا مَا كَانَ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ وَمِنْهَا مَا كَانَ فِي الْمَنَام وَحَكَاهُ السُّهيْلي عَن بن الْعَرَبِيِّ وَاخْتَارَهُ وَجَوَّزَ بَعْضُ قَائِلِي ذَلِكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ قِصَّةُ الْمَنَامِ وَقَعَتْ قَبْلَ الْمَبْعَثِ لِأَجْلِ قَوْلِ شَرِيكٍ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُ وحَى إِلَيْهِ
 It is to be noted that there are some akhbar/Hadiths which seem to  contradict this view.And  because of this, some Scholars expressed their view that israau & mia'raaju occurred twice each.They have combined the Hadith of Ayisha and the other Hadiths in such a way that they explain both israu & mia'raaju took place twice each, the first time in his dream and it was a preparation and paving the way to the second time israu & miaaraju which occurred in yaqadah/with the body and spirit of the Prophet wwallallahu a'lyhi wa sallam.Imam Al Muhallab Ibnu Abee Swafra Athameemi Al Maliki Al Andalusi, the author of one of the EXPLANATORY BOOKS of Sahih Al Bukhari also holds this view.Some holds that both the incidents occurred many a time both in dream and yaqadah.Out of the Scholars who holds that the israu & miaaraaju ocurred more than once , some consider that the israu & miaaraju in dream was before risalath, i.e before sending the Messenger as the Messenger of Allah.The Hadith of Anas is quoted by them as a proof.Some others holds that it was purely in dream/manaam, but this is the most vulnerable view.

 وَذَهَبَ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى أَنَّ الْإِسْرَاءَ كَانَ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ وَالْمِعْرَاجَ كَانَ فِي الْمَنَامِ أَوْ أَنَّ الِاخْتِلَافَ فِي كَوْنِهِ يَقَظَةً أَوْ مَنَامًا خَاصٌّ بِالْمِعْرَاجِ لَا  بِالْإِسْرَاءِ وَلِذَلِكَ لَمَّا أَخْبَرَ بِهِ قُرَيْشًا كَذَّبُوهُ فِي الْإِسْرَاءِ وَاسْتَبْعَدُوا وُقُوعَهُ وَلَمْ يَتَعَرَّضُوا لِلْمِعْرَاجِ
There are some other Scholars who consider that israau was during yaqada, i.e with the body and spirit of the Prophet swallallahu alaihi va sallam and miaaraaju/ascending to the heavens was during his dream/manaam.They holds the difference of opinion among the Scholars  as to whether it occurred in dream/yaqadah is regarding miaaraju and not regarding israau; or they say that the happening of israau during yaqadah is confirmed though that of miaaraju is disputed.They explain their view by pointing out that the Quraishi Disbelievers rejected the probabilty of the happening of israau while they didn't deny/oppose the miaaraju/ascending and this was because, according to them, there is no probabilty for the occurrence of israau but it was not impossile for the ascending/miaaraju to happen in dream. And this group of Scholars argue that the israu was during yaqadah and that was why the Quraishi kuffar thought that there is little chance for it to happen.
 وَأَيْضًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى قَالَ سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلًا مِنَ الْمَسْجِد الْحَرَام إِلَى الْمَسْجِد الْأَقْصَى فَلَوْ وَقَعَ الْمِعْرَاجُ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ لَكَانَ ذَلِكَ أَبْلَغَ فِي الذِّكْرِ فَلَمَّا لَمْ يَقَعْ ذِكْرُهُ فِي هَذَا الْموضع مَعَ كَون شَأْنُهُ أَعْجَبَ وَأَمْرُهُ أَغْرَبَ مِنَ الْإِسْرَاءِ بِكَثِيرٍ دَلَّ عَلَى أَنَّهُ كَانَ مَنَامًا وَأَمَّا الْإِسْرَاءُ فَلَوْ كَانَ مَنَامًا لَمَا كَذَّبُوهُ وَلَا اسْتَنْكَرُوهُ لِجَوَازِ وُقُوعِ مِثْلِ ذَلِكَ وَأَبْعَدَ مِنْهُ لِآحَادِ النَّاسِ
Apart from that in Surah Isra-eel we see verse No.1
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي أَسْرَى بِعَبْدِهِ لَيْلاً مِّنَ الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ الأَقْصَى الَّذِي بَارَكْنَا حَوْلَهُ لِنُرِيَهُ مِنْ آيَاتِنَا إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ
الْبَصِيرُ

Here Allah mentions Israu and not Mia'araju.The Scholars argue that if Miaaraju/ascending was in yaqadah/with body and rouh , then it would have been mentioned by Allah with importance as the events of Miaaraju are more awesome eventful and astonishing , but here only Israu is mentioned.Also, they advocate that if Israu was a dream /manaam , then Quraishi kuffars would not have disbelieved or rejected it.
وَقِيلَ كَانَ الْإِسْرَاءُ مَرَّتَيْنِ فِي الْيَقَظَةِ فَالْأُولَى رَجَعَ مِنْ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ وَفِي صَبِيحَتِهِ أَخْبَرَ قُرَيْشًا بِمَا وَقَعَ وَالثَّانِيَةُ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِهِ مِنْ لَيْلَتِهِ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ إِلَى آخِرِ مَا وَقَعَ وَلَمْ يَقَعْ لِقُرَيْشٍ

It is also said that, Israu occurred twice and in the first instance Prophet travelled by night from Masjidul Haram at Makkah to Baithul Maqadis at Jerusalem and then returned the same night and informed the Quraish about the events. And in the second instance the Prophet after reaching the Baithul Maqdis ascended to the heavens (miaaraaju).Both the israu happened in yaqadah.
 وَيُؤَيِّدُ وُقُوعَ الْمِعْرَاجِ عَقِبَ الْإِسْرَاءِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ رِوَايَةُ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عِنْدَ مُسْلِمٍ فَفِي أَوَّلِهِ أُتِيتُ بِالْبُرَاقِ فَرَكِبْتُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ فَذَكَرَ الْقِصَّةَ إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ ثُمَّ عُرِجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيّ عِنْد بن إِسْحَاقَ فَلَمَّا فَرَغْتُ مِمَّا كَانَ فِي بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ أُتِيَ بِالْمِعْرَاجِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَوَقَعَ فِي أَوَّلِ حَدِيثِ مَالِكِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنْ لَيْلَةِ أُسْرِيَ بِهِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فَهُوَ وَإِنْ لَمْ يذكر فِيهِ الْإِسْرَاءَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَقَدْ أَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ وَصَرَّحَ بِهِ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ فَهُوَ الْمُعْتَمَدُ
The view that Miaaraaju/ascending occurred in the same night of Israu and immediately after Israu is supported by supported by the Hadith of Anas ® recorded by Imam Muslim, the Hadith of Aboo Sa-eed Al Qudri recorded By Ishaq bnu Rahvaihi and the Hadith of Maliku bnu Sa'sa'
Among the  three Hadiths referred above,the Hadith recorded by Imam Muslim in his Sahih under kithabul eeman as Hadith No 318 is given below with its Arabic text and English  translation.The Hadith is recorded under the Chapter, The night journey on which the messenger of Allah (saws) was taken up into the heavens and the prayers were enjoinedباب الإِسْرَاءِ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى السَّمَوَاتِ وَفَرْضِ الصَّلَوَاتِ
حَدَّثَنَا شَيْبَانُ بْنُ فَرُّوخَ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ الْبُنَانِيُّ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏"‏ أُتِيتُ بِالْبُرَاقِ - وَهُوَ دَابَّةٌ أَبْيَضُ طَوِيلٌ فَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ وَدُونَ الْبَغْلِ يَضَعُ حَافِرَهُ عِنْدَ مُنْتَهَى طَرْفِهِ - قَالَ فَرَكِبْتُهُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ - قَالَ - فَرَبَطْتُهُ بِالْحَلْقَةِ الَّتِي يَرْبِطُ بِهِ الأَنْبِيَاءُ - قَالَ - ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّيْتُ فِيهِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ
It is narrated on the authority of Anas b. Malik that the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:
I was brought al-Buraq Who is an animal white and long, larger than a donkey but smaller than a mule, who would place his hoof a distance equal to the range of vision. I mounted it and came to the Temple (Bait Maqdis in Jerusalem), then tethered it to the ring used by the prophets. I entered the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs in it ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ فَجَاءَنِي جِبْرِيلُ - عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ - بِإِنَاءٍ مِنْ خَمْرٍ وَإِنَاءٍ مِنْ لَبَنٍ
 فَاخْتَرْتُ اللَّبَنَ
فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ صلى الله عليه وسلم اخْتَرْتَ الْفِطْرَةَ
AND then came out and Gabriel brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk, and Gabriel said: You have chosen the natural thing
ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ ‏.‏ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِآدَمَ فَرَحَّبَ بِي وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ‏.
Then he took me to heaven. Gabriel then asked the (gate of heaven) to be opened and he was asked who he was. He replied: Gabriel. He was again asked: Who is with you? He (Gabriel) said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? Gabriel replied: He has indeed been sent for. And (the door of the heaven) was opened for us and lo! we saw Adam. He welcomed me and prayed for my good
 ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّانِيَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ ‏.‏ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ ‏.‏ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِابْنَىِ الْخَالَةِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَيَحْيَى بْنِ زَكَرِيَّاءَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِمَا فَرَحَّبَا وَدَعَوَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ‏.
Then we ascended to the second heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) (asked the door of heaven to be opened), and he was asked who he was. He answered: Gabriel; and was again asked: Who is with you? He replied: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. The gate was opened. When I entered 'Isa b. Maryam and Yahya b. Zakariya (peace be upon both of them), cousins from the maternal side. welcomed me and prayed for my good
ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِي إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الثَّالِثَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ فَقِيلَ مَنْ أَنْتَ قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ ‏.‏ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِيُوسُفَ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا هُوَ قَدْ أُعْطِيَ شَطْرَ الْحُسْنِ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ‏.
Then I was taken to the third heaven and Gabriel asked for the opening (of the door). He was asked: Who are you? He replied: Gabriel. He was (again) asked: Who is with you? He replied Muhammad (). It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and I saw Yusuf (peace of Allah be upon him) who had been given half of (world) beauty. He welcomed me prayed for my well-being
 ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الرَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ - عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ - قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ‏.‏ قَالَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ ‏.‏ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِدْرِيسَ فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏‏ وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا‏
Then he ascended with us to the fourth heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked for the (gate) to be opened, and it was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was (again) said: Who is with you? He said: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. The (gate) was opened for us, and lo! Idris was there. He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being (About him) Allah, the Exalted and the Glorious, has said:" We elevated him (Idris) to the exalted position" (Qur'an xix. 57)
 ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الْخَامِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ ‏.‏ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِهَارُونَ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْر
Then he ascended with us to the fifth heaven and Gabriel asked for the (gate) to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He replied Gabriel. It was (again) said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad. It was said Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and then I was with Harun (Aaron-peace of Allah be upon him). He welcomed me prayed for my well-being
 ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّادِسَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ ‏.‏ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُوسَى صلى الله عليه وسلم فَرَحَّبَ وَدَعَا لِي بِخَيْرٍ ‏.
Then I was taken to the sixth heaven. Gabriel (peace be upon him) asked for the door to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He replied: Gabriel. It was said: Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad. It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and there I was with Musa (Moses peace be upon him) He welcomed me and prayed for my well-being
 ثُمَّ عَرَجَ بِنَا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ السَّابِعَةِ فَاسْتَفْتَحَ جِبْرِيلُ فَقِيلَ مَنْ هَذَا قَالَ جِبْرِيلُ ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ قَالَ مُحَمَّدٌ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏.‏ قِيلَ وَقَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ قَالَ قَدْ بُعِثَ إِلَيْهِ ‏.‏ فَفُتِحَ لَنَا فَإِذَا أَنَا بِإِبْرَاهِيمَ صلى الله عليه وسلم مُسْنِدًا ظَهْرَهُ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ الْمَعْمُورِ وَإِذَا هُوَ يَدْخُلُهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ سَبْعُونَ أَلْفَ مَلَكٍ لاَ يَعُودُونَ إِلَيْهِ
Then I was taken up to the seventh heaven. Gabriel asked the (gate) to be opened. It was said: Who is he? He said: Gabriel It was said. Who is with thee? He replied: Muhammad (may peace be upon him.) It was said: Has he been sent for? He replied: He has indeed been sent for. (The gate) was opened for us and there I found Ibrahim (Abraham peace be upon him) reclining against the Bait-ul-Ma'mur and there enter into it seventy thousand angels every day, never to visit (this place) again
 ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ بِي إِلَى السِّدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَى وَإِذَا وَرَقُهَا كَآذَانِ الْفِيَلَةِ وَإِذَا ثَمَرُهَا كَالْقِلاَلِ - قَالَ - فَلَمَّا غَشِيَهَا مِنْ أَمْرِ اللَّهِ مَا غَشِيَ تَغَيَّرَتْ فَمَا أَحَدٌ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللَّهِ يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَنْعَتَهَا مِنْ حُسْنِهَا ‏.‏ فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَىَّ مَا أَوْحَى فَفَرَضَ عَلَىَّ خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ
Then I was taken to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha whose leaves were like elephant ears and its fruit like big earthenware vessels. And when it was covered by the Command of Allah, it underwent such a change that none amongst the creation has the power to praise its beauty. Then Allah revealed to me a revelation and He made obligatory for me fifty prayers every day and night

فَنَزَلْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ مَا فَرَضَ رَبُّكَ عَلَى أُمَّتِكَ قُلْتُ خَمْسِينَ صَلاَةً . قَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ فَإِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ يُطِيقُونَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنِّي قَدْ بَلَوْتُ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَخَبَرْتُهُمْ . قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي فَقُلْتُ يَا رَبِّ خَفِّفْ عَلَى أُمَّتِي . فَحَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى فَقُلْتُ حَطَّ عَنِّي خَمْسًا . قَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّتَكَ لاَ يُطِيقُونَ ذَلِكَ فَارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيف
Then I went down to Moses (peace be upon him) and he said: What has your Lord enjoined upon your Ummah? I said: Fifty prayers. He said: Return to thy Lord and beg for reduction (in the number of prayers), for your community shallnot be able to bear this burden. as I have put to test the children of Isra'il and tried them (and found them too weak to bear such a heavy burden). He (the Holy Prophet) said: I went back to my Lord and said: My Lord, make things lighter for my Ummah. (The Lord) reduced five prayers for me. I went down to Moses and said. (The Lord) reduced five (prayers) for me, He said: Verily thy Ummah shall not be able to bear this burden; return to thy Lord and ask Him to make things lighter
قَالَ فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أَرْجِعُ بَيْنَ رَبِّي تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى وَبَيْنَ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ حَتَّى قَالَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ إِنَّهُنَّ خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ لِكُلِّ صَلاَةٍ عَشْرٌ فَذَلِكَ خَمْسُونَ صَلاَةً . وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِحَسَنَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ حَسَنَةً فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ لَهُ عَشْرًا وَمَنْ هَمَّ بِسَيِّئَةٍ فَلَمْ يَعْمَلْهَا لَمْ تُكْتَبْ شَيْئًا فَإِنْ عَمِلَهَا كُتِبَتْ سَيِّئَةً وَاحِدَةً
 I then kept going back and forth between my Lord Blessed and Exalted and Moses, till He said: There are five prayers every day and night. O Muhammad, each being credited as ten, so that makes fifty prayers. He who intends to do a good deed and does not do it will have a good deed recorded for him; and if he does it, it will be recorded for him as ten; whereas he who intends to do an evil deed and does not do, it will not be recorded for him; and if he does it, only one evil deed will be recorded.
قَالَ فَنَزَلْتُ حَتَّى انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى مُوسَى صلى الله عليه وسلم فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ ارْجِعْ إِلَى رَبِّكَ فَاسْأَلْهُ التَّخْفِيفَ . فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقُلْتُ قَدْ رَجَعْتُ إِلَى رَبِّي حَتَّى اسْتَحْيَيْتُ مِنْ هُ
 I then came down and when I came to Moses and informed him, he said: Go back to thy Lord and ask Him to make things lighter. Upon this the Messenger of Allah remarked: I returned to my Lord until I felt ashamed before Him

‏‏  وَاحْتَجَّ مَنْ زَعَمَ أَنَّ الْإِسْرَاءَ وَقَعَ مُفْرَدًا بِمَا أَخْرَجَهُ الْبَزَّارُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَصَحَّحَهُ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي الدَّلَائِلِ من حَدِيث شَدَّاد بن أَوْس قَالَ قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ أُسْرِيَ بِكَ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ صَلَاةَ الْعَتَمَةِ بِمَكَّةَ فَأَتَانِي جِبْرِيلُ بِدَابَّةٍ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ فِي مَجِيئِهِ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ وَمَا وَقَعَ لَهُ فِيهِ قَالَ ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ بِي فَمَرَرْنَا بِعِيرٍ لِقُرَيْشٍ بِمَكَانِ كَذَا فَذَكَرَهُ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ أَصْحَابِي قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ بِمَكَّةَ وَفِي حَدِيث أم هَانِئ عِنْد بن إِسْحَاقَ وَأَبِي يَعْلَى نَحْوَ مَا فِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ هَذَا
Those who advocate that Israu occurred separately give as their proof one Hadith of Shaddad bnu Aus recorded by Thabrani and Bazzar and treated as Sahih by Baihaqi in his Dalaa'il . Shaddad bnu Aus says: We asked Rasoolullahi swallallahu alaihi va sallam: Oh Rasoolullah  How was your night  jouney of Israu? Prophet swallallahu a'lyhi va sallam replied: I performed salathul a'thamah-salathul I'shaau at Makkah ;Then there came Gabriel with an animal- the Buraq,the special conveyance from Allah- Then after explaining the journey to Baithul Maqdis and the events that took place there , the Prophet continued:Then he took me back to Makkah and there we met one caravan of Quraish and he informed them of the events that took place.The Prophet continues: Then I came to my Companions in Makkah bfore Subhu.
  فَإِنْ ثَبَتَ أَنَّ الْمِعْرَاجَ كَانَ مَنَامًا عَلَى ظَاهِرِ رِوَايَةِ شَرِيكٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ فَيَنْتَظِمُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَنَّ الْإِسْرَاءَ وَقَعَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّةً عَلَى انْفِرَادِهِ وَمَرَّةً مَضْمُومًا إِلَيْهِ الْمِعْرَاجُ وَكِلَاهُمَا فِي الْيَقَظَةِ وَالْمِعْرَاجُ وَقَعَ مَرَّتَيْنِ مَرَّةً فِي الْمَنَامِ عَلَى انْفِرَادِهِ تَوْطِئَةً وَتَمْهِيدًا وَمَرَّةً فِي الْيَقَظَةِ مَضْمُومًا إِلَى الْإِسْرَاءِ
Now, if the argument that Mi'araaju occurred in dream is confirmed based on the report from Anas®, then it should be understod as follows. Israu occurred twice , the first instance being israau alone and in the second instance mia'araju /ascending followed it.Both the Israu werein yaqadah/with body and Spirit of the Prophet. Mia'araju also occurred twice, the first instance being alone in dream as a preparation and paving the way to the second miaaraju and in the second time in yaqadah/with body and Spirit, following the Israu

 فَرَوَى الْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي الدَّلَائِلِ مِنْ طَرِيقِ صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ افْتُتِنَ نَاسٌ كَثِيرٌ يَعْنِي عَقِبَ الْإِسْرَاءِ فَجَاءَ نَاسٌ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَذَكَرُوا لَهُ فَقَالَ أَشْهَدُ أَنَّهُ صَادِقٌ فَقَالُوا وَتُصَدِّقُهُ بِأَنَّهُ أَتَى الشَّامَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ قَالَ نَعَمْ إِنِّي أُصَدِّقُهُ بِأَبْعَدَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أُصَدِّقُهُ بِخَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ قَالَ فَسُمِّيَ بِذَلِكَ الصّد يق
In a Hadith of Abu Salamah as recorded by Imam Baihaqi in his Dala'il  we see that , soon after Israu, Quraishis asked Aboo Bakar ® about this and Aboo bakar® replied that he would  testify that the Prophet is Trutworthy and Honest . Further when they asked that whether he would believe that the Prophet went to Sham and returned from there to Makkah within one night , Aboo Bakar replied that he would believe in things even beyond it and he believes in the vahyu revealed from  above to the Prophet swallallahu alaihi va sallam.And this is why Aboo Bakar was called As- Siddeeq

وَفِي حَدِيث بن عَبَّاسٍ عِنْدَ أَحْمَدَ وَالْبَزَّارِ بِإِسْنَادٍ حَسَنٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا كَانَ لَيْلَةُ أُسْرِيَ بِي وَأَصْبَحْتُ بِمَكَّةَ مَرَّ بِي عَدُوُّ اللَّهِ أَبُو جَهْلٍ فَقَالَ هَلْ كَانَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنِّي أُسْرِيَ بِي اللَّيْلَةَ إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَصْبَحْتَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِنَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَإِنْ دَعَوْتُ قَوْمَكَ أَتُحَدِّثُهُمْ بِذَلِكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ بَنِي كَعْبِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ قَالَ فَانْفَضَّتْ إِلَيْهِ الْمجَالِس حَتَّى جاؤوا إِلَيْهِمَا فَقَالَ حَدِّثْ قَوْمَكَ بِمَا حَدَّثْتَنِي فَحَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ فَمِنْ بَيْنِ مُصَفِّقٍ وَمِنْ بَيْنِ وَاضِعٍ يَدَهُ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ مُتَعَجِّبًا قَالُوا وَتَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ تَنْعَتَ لَنَا الْمَسْجِدَ الْحَدِيثَ وَوَقَعَ فِي غَيْرِ هَذِهِ الرِّوَايَةِ بَيَانُ مَا رَآهُ لَيْلَةَ الْإِسْرَاءِ
In one Hadith Of Ibnu Abbas® recorded by Imam Ahmad & Bazzar with Hasan chain he says, Rasoolullahi swallallahu a'lyhi va sallam said:When I was taken for Israu and returned to Makkah the next morning,Aboo Jahl came near me and asked: Is there anything special? Then Rasoolullahi swallallahu alyhi va sallam replied: I was taken for a journey the previous night and then I retuned to mkkah and reached here in the morning.Then Aboo Jahal said:Yes, Then would you dare to tell what you told me to your people, if I invite them .Then the Prophet replied in the affirmative . Then Aboo Jahl gathered the different tribes and  said : Tell your people what you just told me. Then Rasoolullahi swallallahu alyhi va sallam explained to them what happened in the previous night.Then the people exclaimed: You describes Baithul Maqdis as if it is in front of you
فَمِنْ ذَلِكَ مَا وَقَعَ عِنْدَ النَّسَائِيِّ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي مَالِكٍ عَنْ أَنَسٌ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيتُ بِدَابَّةٍ فَوْقَ الْحِمَارِ وَدُونَ الْبَغْلِ الْحَدِيثَ وَفِيهِ فَرَكِبْتُ وَمَعِي جِبْرِيلُ فَسِرْتُ فَقَالَ انْزِلْ فَصَلِّ فَفَعَلْتُ فَقَالَ أَتَدْرِي أَيْنَ صَلَّيْتُ صَلَّيْتُ بِطَيْبَةَ وَإِلَيْهَا الْمُهَاجَرَةُ يَعْنِي بِفَتْحِ الْجِيمِ وَوَقَعَ فِي حَدِيثِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ عِنْدَ الْبَزَّارِ وَالطَّبَرَانِيِّ أَنَّهُ أَوَّلَ مَا أُسْرِيَ بِهِ مَرَّ بِأَرْضٍ ذَاتِ نَخْلٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ انْزِلْ فَصَلِّ فَنَزَلَ فَصَلَّى فَقَالَ صَلَّيْتُ بِيَثْرِبَ ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي رِوَايَتِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ انْزِلْ فَصَلِّ مِثْلَ الْأَوَّلِ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ بِطُورِ سَيْنَاءَ حَيْثُ كَلَّمَ اللَّهُ مُوسَى ثُمَّ قَالَ انْزِلْ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ بِبَيْتِ لَحْمٍ حَيْثُ وُلِدَ عِيسَى وَقَالَ فِي رِوَايَةِ شَدَّادٍ بَعْدَ قَوْلِهِ يَثْرِبَ ثُمَّ مَرَّ بِأَرْضٍ بَيْضَاءَ فَقَالَ انْزِلْ فَصَلِّ فَقَالَ صَلَّيْتُ بِمَدْيَنَ وَفِيهِ أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ الْمَدِينَةَ مِنْ بَابِهَا الْيَمَانِي فَصَلَّى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ
The reports that Rsoolullahi swallallahu a'lyhi va sallam visited Thybah,Yathrib,Thuri Synau where Prophet Moses alyhi ssalam talked to Allah,the Madyan of Prophet Shu'aybu ,Baithu Lahmu(Beth Lehem) where Prophet Jesus alyhissalam was born and performed Salah are mentioned above.

وَزَادَ فِي رِوَايَةِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي مَالِكٍ ثُمَّ دَخَلْتُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ فَجُمِعَ لِي الْأَنْبِيَاءُ فَقَدَّمَنِي جِبْرِيلُ حَتَّى أَمَمْتُهُمْ
 وَفِي رِوَايَةِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ هَاشِمِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ عِنْدَ الْبَيْهَقِيِّ فِي الدَّلَائِلِ أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِشَيْءٍ يَدْعُوهُ مُتَنَحِّيًا عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ سِرْ وَأَنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَى عَجُوزٍ فَقَالَ مَا هَذِهِ فَقَالَ سِرْ وَأَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِجَمَاعَةٍ فَسَلَّمُوا فَقَالَ لَهُ جِبْرِيلُ ارْدُدْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَفِي آخِرِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ الَّذِي دَعَاكَ إِبْلِيسُ وَالْعَجُوزُ الدُّنْيَا وَالَّذِينَ سَلَّمُواإِبْرَاهِيمُ وَمُوسَى وَعِيسَى
In the report of  Yazeedu bnu Malik , Prophet says that he entered into Baith ul Maqdis where all the Prophets were gathered and Gabriel came forward with the Prophet and performed Salah as Imam to all of them .In one Hadith of Anas® as recorded by Imam Baihaqi in his Dala'il it is described that during night journey of the Prophet , on the way,one person called him from a corner and the angel Gabriel told the Prophet to continue the journey without stopping and then he passed by an old lady and then he asked Gabriel who she was.The angel's reply was again to continue the journey without stopping. Then they passed by a group of people and they greeted them with salaam.Then the angel Gabriel told the Prophet to return Salaam.By the end of the journey Gabriel explained what the Prophet had seen during the journey.He said: The one who invited you was  Iblees/Satan, the old Lady was This World/Duniyaa ,and the persons who greeted them were Abraham, Moses & Jesus Peace be upon them all.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عِنْدَ الطَّبَرَانِيِّ وَالْبَزَّارِ أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِقَوْمٍ يَزْرَعُونَ وَيَحْصُدُونَ كُلَّمَا حَصَدُوا عَادَ كَمَا كَانَ قَالَ جِبْرِيل هَؤُلَاءِ المجاهدون
وَمر بِقوم ترضخ رؤوسهم بِالصَّخْرِ كُلَّمَا رُضِخَتْ عَادَتْ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ تثاقل رؤوسهم عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ
وَمَرَّ بِقَوْمٍ عَلَى عَوْرَاتِهِمْ رِقَاعٌ يَسْرَحُونَ كَالْأَنْعَامِ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤَدُّونَ الزَّكَاةَ
 وَمَرَّ بِقَوْمٍ يَأْكُلُونَ لَحْمًا نَيْئًا خَبِيثًا وَيَدَعُونَ لَحْمًا نَضِيجًا طَيِّبًا قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ الزُّنَاةُ
 وَمر بِرَجُل جمع حزمة حطب لايستطيع حَمْلَهَا ثُمَّ هُوَ يَضُمُّ إِلَيْهَا غَيْرَهَا قَالَ هَذَا الَّذِي عِنْدَهُ الْأَمَانَةُ لَا يُؤَدِّيهَا وَهُوَ يَطْلُبُ أُخْرَى
وَمَرَّ بِقَوْمٍ تُقْرَضُ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَشِفَاهُهُمْ كُلَّمَا قُرِضَتْ عَادَتْ قَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ خُطَبَاءُ الْفِتْنَةِ
وَمَرَّ بِثَوْرٍ عَظِيمٍ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ ثَقْبٍ صَغِيرٍ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَرْجِعَ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ قَالَ هَذَا الرَّجُلُ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْكَلِمَةِ فَيَنْدَمُ فَيُرِيدُ أَنْ يَرُدَّهَا فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ
In one Hadith of Aboo Hurairah recorded by Thabrani and Bazzar there is the description some scenes that the Prophet witnessed during the Night Journey.
These scenes are mentioned below
1.People planting and then harvesting;but soon  after harvesting the planation is ready again for harvesting as it was before .Gabriel explained to the Prophet that they were people who performed Jihad in the cause of Allah.
2. Some people hit their heads in rocks and break their heads but the heads  become in the former position and the process is repeated. Gabriel explained to the Prophet that they were people who didn't perform Salah properly
.People wearing worn out dresses and wandering like cattle. Gabriel explained to the Prophet that they were people who didn't pay Zakah
4.People eating bad and raw meat keping aside good and cooked meat. Gabriel explained to the Prophet that they were adulterers
5. A man trying to load firewood upon his head and though he is unable to do it additional loads are being added to the load. Gabriel explained to the Prophet that he was a person who didn't return Amanathu and yet sought for Amanathu again
6. People tearing out their tounges and lips and they becomes as they were before and the process is repeated. Gabriel explained to the Prophet that they  used to talk/speak fithnah
7. A bull that try to get out thrugh a small hole but he is unable to do  so .Gabriel explained to the Prophet that he was a person who uttered something wrong and wanted to take back his word but he could not.

وَوَقَعَ فِي حَدِيثِ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ عِنْدَ الْبَزَّارِ وَالطَّبَرَانِيِّ مَا يُؤَيِّدُ الِاحْتِمَالَ الْأَوَّلَ فَفِيهِ ثُمَّ مَرَرْتُ بِعِيرٍ لِقُرَيْشٍ فَذَكَرَ الْقِصَّةَ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ أَصْحَابِي بِمَكَّةَ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ فَأَتَانِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ فَقَالَ أَيْنَ كُنْتَ اللَّيْلَةَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَتَيْتُ بَيْتَ الْمَقْدِسِ فَقَالَ إِنَّهُ مَسِيرَةُ شَهْرٍ فَصِفْهُ لِي قَالَ فَفُتِحَ لِي شِرَاكٌ كَأَنِّي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ لَا يَسْأَلُنِي عَنْ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا أَنْبَأْتُهُ عَنْهُ
In one Hadith reported by Shaddad bnu Aus recorded by Bazzar and Thabrani , the Prophet swallallahu a'lyhi va sallam said:……''Then I passed by the caravan of  Quraish and explained to them what had happened in the previous night ;and before the dawn I returned to my Companions and there, Aboo Bakar asked me : Where were you the previous night? I replied: I went to Baithul Maqdis .Then Aboo Bakar said : It takes one month to reach there ; You may describe Baithul Maqdis for us.Then Baithul Maqdis was displayed before me and I answered to all their queries as if it was just in front of me.
